rspbRSPB (The Royal Society for the Protection of Birds) membership costs from as little as £34 a year for adults and will help protect UK endangered birds and other wildlife so they won't disappear from the landscape, RSPB will help restore & manage the natural countryside & vital habitats, which so many species of birds and other wildlife need to survive and will campaign in the UK & Europe against developments which are damaging to birds and the environment.

From saving special birds and important places, to encouraging people to discover nature, 2007 was an great year for the RSPB with many achievements made possible by their supporters.

In 2007 the RSPB acquired their 200th nature reserve, Sutton Fen in Norfolk and witnessed the 200th white tailed eagle chick fledge in Scotland since reintroduction started in 1975. RSPB also celebrated forty years of field teaching on their reserves, in that time, they have welcomed 100's of thousands of children to RSPB sites across the UK. Internationally projects to save the Sumatran rainforest and the Gola forest have also took massive steps forward.

From the 26th to 27th January 2008, the RSPB's big garden birdwatch happens, it is the world's largest bird survey and the RSPB's biggest event of the year, in 2007 over 400,000 people took part by counting birds in their own gardens for an hour, it's simple to do so you don't have to be a professional and it gives the RSPB a good snapshot of the UK's bird population each winte. Over one hour people are asked to record the highest number of each species of bird seen in their garden at any one time, then they note them on the counting sheet provided and send it in to the RSPB, their scientists can then use this information and patterns in the bird numbers to help prioritise conservation work.
